Scalo Vanchiglia

The “Grow Your Green City” project defines a new model of city for the future of Turin.
A sustainable community based on the centrality of the individual and on low impact strategies that redesign the mobility, architecture, public space.
A green community that produces what it consumes, from energy to agriculture.
A new idea of nature: the productive landscape, with zero management costs, with biomass, recycling of waste, urban family and collective vegetable gardens, for direct consumption.

The project defines a corridor of naturalness, the “fluidum”,
a linear park, a public space with rest areas, play areas, service buildings. Green enters the city with a series of clearings dedicated to relaxation.
All necessary services are a short distance away, with routes designed according to the way of travel. The project promotes alternative mobility with stations for electric cars and car sharing.
Line 2 of the subway goes through the city, promoting the renunciation of the car. The network of internal roads reduces the interference of vehicles as much as possible, excluding the passing through of the neighborhood.
The design of the new city arises from the diagonal streets, from the large lots that fragment the urban grid, from the recovery of the historical traces of the canals.
Via Regaldi is the backbone that divides the Scalo Vanchiglia into two sections: the northern part, low density, a fabric of green areas dotted with urban villas, greenhouses, small lofts. The part to the south, with a higher and denser urban morphology and a privileged view of the landscape.

The new buildings mark a series of transversal bands in via Regaldi, which allow the total urban permeability between the park and the new city.
The urban design allows effective ventilation, better sunshine and a deep visual transparency.
The project promotes a mix of urban functions: services of public interest, a light productive district and a prevalence of residence, with innovative housing models, from co-housing, with shared spaces and services, loft-like spaces for working and living, and housing social.
The new settlement produces more energy than it consumes. Each building is a potential producer of energy from renewable sources, networking available to the neighborhood. Architecture promotes the most up-to-date energy technologies.
The “Grow your Green City” project brings a new model of life to Turin for the next decade.
