Bergamo city new headquarter

The province of Bergamo has launched an international competition in two phases. In the first phase, 152 design groups intervened, with a proposal that provides for the presentation of a project idea of ​​the theme in competition and its own c.v. professional. Following this, 10 groups were selected with the exclusion of some of the most important professional firms in the world (America, Japan, Europe). The complex theme of the competition is the new headquarters of the Province of Bergamo, the starting element of a large masterplan for the construction of a new centrality of the city of Bergamo, focused on the transformation of the railway areas, partly abandoned.
The masterplan proposed as the basis of the competition includes a cluster of towers with a maximum height of 88 meters. The delicacy of the theme lies in the relationship between this tower and the skyline of ancient Bergamo. The interpretation of the group led by Benedetto Camerana overturns the concept of the masterplan by proposing a horizontal tower that rises slowly recalling the rise of Bergamo high, building a courtyard and ending with a single vertical element that houses the presidential offices, limiting itself to a maximum quota of 64 meters. The solutions for the facades and systems offer an extremely advanced and innovative response in terms of energy saving and technical comfort of the work spaces.
